Chachani Trip Report (#11554)

Since Chachani usually is covered by clouds before noon in February, we started our ascent from the base camp shortly after midnight. Climbing during the night was awarded by a magnificent view of illuminated Arequipa far down and the sun rising right after summiting. Most of the scree was covered by frozen snow and the trail from previous climbers made the use of crampons obsolete this time. If acclimatized properly (a week or so in Cuzco and Puno) the altitude is no problem at all and the only success factor is physical shape. Thanks to our guide Raul for taking us up there!!!
