After a period of rainy weather, we (my daughter and I) drove up, hoping for a good weather day. We definitely got it. Wispy morning fog gave way to a sunny day with no storms and progressive clearing. We left the Blank Gulch trailhead at 6:10 am in fog. By the time we reached timberline, the sky was mostly clear, and we could see a blanket of clouds in the Arkansas Valley below. Wind came up (30 mph or so), but temperatures remained mild. We reached Shavano's summit about 10:30, with the wind gone, and the clouds in the valley dissapating. We were back about 3 hours later, after climbing Tabeguache Peak (see entry for that peak), while the day continued to get better and better. We got back to the trailhead about 5:30, tired but happy.
