I highly recommend climbing this peak with Tabeguache from the Blank Gulch trailhead. Apparently, it's a little longer and more elevation gain than the Jennings Creek way, but that is not officially recommended by 14ers.org due to overuse and the possibility of getting lost. The Blank Gulch trail is well maintained, has a steady grade, and goes through a beautiful aspen, evergreen forest. The connecting saddle with Tabeguache takes about an hour to go one way. The Tabeguache side is steep; you basically have to slog up 500 feet. Returning back over Shavano is the only sane way back; this climb is more gentle but there are lots of false summits before you finally get to the top and can see the trail going back down. All in all, a very excellent climb that will make your legs sore nonetheless.
