Climbed East Peak by NE Face (750 mtrs) Started from Margarita Hut (highest hut in Europe and well worth a visit - there was no guardian present but a gas stove and heater and a bunk room with blankets) on Signal Kuppe at 4am and had a nice down hill aproach which took about 1 hour (the guide book suggests starting from Monta Rosa hut but this is a 4hr approach)! Crossing the Bergschrund was tricky because the snow was very soft (snow stakes would have been very useful for belaying). After 450 mtrs we hit very hard water ice (horrible) and it started snowing quite heavily. We traversed onto the rock rib that is mentioned in the guide book description and finished with some quite difficult mixed but enjoyable climbing (good gear and belays).
