One of our favorite 14er climbs. It's steep, but includes wonderful views of the Apostles wilderness. Enjoy the basin at about 12,000 feet, because you will be huffing and puffing all the way from...

Selected as a relatively easy 14er for a family hike: me, wife, daughter, and two grandchildren. My grandson's (14) first 14er. Clear morning, cloudy late morning with a brief grapple shower, but...

Camped near the Banker Mine. Nice hike, very nice trail. The last thousand feet or so in gain were on 1/4 inch of new snow, which was nearly gone on the descend. Very high winds.

I really appreciated this peak after climbing all 5 of the Mosquito 14ers the prior 2 days. This peak is a relatively easy Sawatch 14er. In other words more difficult than the Mosquito 14ers. There...

Nice hike and great route. Kudos to the CFI for all their hardwork. #10!
  • Log #12139 - by Dan Bowers & Peter C. Key on July 12, 2004
DO NOT do this from the south side(Cloyses Lake). Roach fails to mention that this involves hours of crawling over truck sized Boulders. It takes any easy peak and turns it into a long long haul.
  • Log #12158 - by Kirk Mallory on Oct 13, 2003
An easy climb with great views. The climb took me 5 Hrs 40 Min fro two-wheel drive parking. Excellent views of the Three Apostles, including Ice Mountain.
  • Log #12140 - by Richard Ratliff on Oct 12, 2003
This was a great trail. It was very easy to find. The hike was just about all uphill. There was a little bit of snow from about 12,000 ft on.
  • Log #12157 - by Kirk Mallory on Oct 12, 2003
Second climb of Huron Peak. Summited with my brother Jim and friend Chad Groce. A great climb with great weather, and hardly any snow.
  • Log #12141 - by Prescott on Sep 12, 2003
Pretty easy climb with gorgeous views on a perfect day.
  • Log #12142 - by Jeff Cramer on Sep 04, 2003
Jim and I started at the S. Winfield TH at 7:30 am. I had heard that the Colorado 14er initiative had rebuilt the standard route on Huron. We elected to summit Huron from the South West instead.
  • Log #12143 - by Wade Baxter on Dec 15, 2002
Had driven all the way here from San Diego the day before to get in some work on the fourteeners. I climbed 9 of them two years ago and would like to eventually complete them all. I was also training...
  • Log #12144 - by Devin Jenkins on Aug 01, 2002
This was my first fourteener, and it was perfect! Took five hours from Winfield to the summit, though if I could do it again I'd camp at the trailhead and save two miles of hiking each way (at the...
  • Log #12145 - by Gina Pieri on June 29, 2002
As a summer-long visitor to Colorado from South Bend, Indiana, nothing could have prepared me for Huron Peak, my first 14er. The trail we started on was not the official Huron trail as we soon found...
  • Log #12146 - by Aaron Batte on June 19, 2002
Approached from the Northwest and followed a very nice trail (one of the nicest I've encountered on a 14er). This was our Father's Day hike and in the group were my wife, her father, her sister and...
  • Log #12147 - by Josh Hoffman on Nov 28, 2001
Mount Huron was one of the hardest things I have ever done, it was 2/3 uphill and in the end, I was wiped out, but finally I made it to the top and it was one of the most breath-taking memorable...
  • Log #12148 - by Steve Nyberg on Nov 02, 2001
Excellent trail - I climbed the standard Northwest route up from Winfield. Some pics are on my site www.mile50.com. The upper north facing slopes were a little muddy and snow/ice-packed from the...
  • Log #12149 - by Michael Jake on Oct 01, 2001
Hiked with my buddy Ryan Taylor - visiting from Ohio. Took the NW Slopes route as described in Gerry Roach's book. Nice hike and great views at top!
  • Log #12150 - by Daren O'Brien on Sep 14, 2001
Good job to CFI, this is a great trail. Hiked this one with my father from Minnesota(1200ft),which was his first 14er. The highest he has hiked. He spent 3 nights in Leadville aclimatizing prior to...
  • Log #12151 - by Larry on Aug 29, 2001
Wanda, Alice, and I summited this one. It's pretty steep with the last 2 miles covering 3400 feet of elevation. The summit is tiny. We were the first to the summit that day.
  • Log #12152 - by Bruce Pooley on Aug 28, 2001
Departed the 4WD parking lot along Clear Creek at 8:15 a.m. Summited from the southwest slopes over the rocks at approximately 1:00 p.m. This is definitely more time consuming than the Northwest foot...

Great climb, not much snow suprisingly! Climbed with my good friends Michelle, and Marcia. First one of 2001!
  • Log #12154 - by Christopher Dorry on Mar 30, 2001
Do not remember the exact time the climb took, but do remember it being an absolutely beautiful hike/day. The majority of the elevation seems to take place in the very beginning of the hike, then...
  • Log #12155 - by Matt Kirk on Nov 03, 2000
Greetings 14er climbers and enthusiasts. I just wanted to let everyone know that there should be a 14ers forum coming soon at http://www.trailjournals.com. If you have the time, please come by and...

I did this hike with my brother, Kirk. The weather was awesome. It was warm and dry and hardly any snow on the peak. Usually don't see this in November in Colorado.
