Huron Peak Trip Report (#12145)

As a summer-long visitor to Colorado from South Bend, Indiana, nothing could have prepared me for Huron Peak, my first 14er. The trail we started on was not the official Huron trail as we soon found out when is came to a dead end. I believe it was near Lulu's Gulch (?) So we scrambled, traversed, slithered up, over and down a ridge to get to the main trail, and then followed that trail up. I don't know how many times I told Tim, "there is no way I can go on, Tim, seriously." But five of us managed to summit the mountain, and I am still in disbelief that I did it. The view was incredible, a little hazy from the fires, but awesome. I think most reviews of the mountains are fairly rose-colored, even this small 14er was truly difficult. And going down... oh my knees, my ankles, my head throbbing as we bounced our way down to the trailhead! But it really (really!) was a blast, and I am proud to say I've done it. I can't wait to see how I feel tomorrow!!!
