This was the day that England played Argentina in the World cup. We set off from Glenridding in good conditions, found Stiding edge no problem, but the weather closed in VERY quickly. Very windy, rain, zero visibility, got disorientated at the end of the edge. By luck (i think) we managed to scramble to the summit. We could hear voices but could see no-one. Had to get out map and compass to find the shelter! Had a welcome lunch at the shelter where there was a small group with 2 dogs who had had a similar experience to us. In very bad conditions we found squirrel edge, on the the descent the visibility soon improved. It was a very enjoyably day out (though my wife doesn't agree). Planning on doing again in May 2003, but only if weather (and the wife) alows. By the way, we had taped the football game, didn't find out the result and watched it on video at the cottage that evening. England 1 Argentina 0.
