First time for this one and done in next to zero visibility. Set off from Glenridding and soon hit the mist after the farm gates. Easy walk up to the 'hole in the wall' and then compass and map required to work out where Striding Edge was. Went across the top, the hard way. Could sometimes hear voices of other parties but saw nobody but my two companions. Once on Helvellyn, map and compass required again to find Swirral - visibility was really that bad. To exit at such a point on a compass bearing was a bit of a leap of faith. Of course skies cleared on way down but summit always shrouded. Real shame not to get sense of height on Striding but nice experience anyway. Will do it again on a clear day next time (hopefully). 5.5 hours all in all.
