Hey, Climbed Helvellyn about two days before the mountains were closed due to F+M (Just in time!) Went up Striding Edge, freezing level lowering throughout the day turned heavy rain into sleet and hail being blown at my face at high speeds. Not much snow on the edge itself, but the steep section at the very end held alot of hard snow/ice. Top was very windy, couldn't see a thing. Cornices were still intact, which proved to be a slight problem when descending Swirral Edge. Snow on Swirral Edge down to Red Tarn, it was all frozen over HARD, crampons and ice axes were a MUST! Red Tarn partially frozen over still. Rained all the way down back to the car, but great fun!
Does anyone know what Nethermost Gully is like? What grade is it? Is it comparable to anything else on Helvellyn?
