First Lakeleand mountain i climbed- and what an introduction to the place!
Took the 'boring' route up from Wythburn, stopping to bag Nethermost Pike along the way. In reality the route is splendid, if easy, with great views of the Scafells opening up as height is gained. An added bonus of doing it on a weekday is that we encountered no more than 5 people until the summit was reached.
Took 1hr 35 mins to get to the top, with snow patches above 2500ft (and a good covering on the east face), perfect sunny weather and no wind.
Helvellyn deservedly lives up to it's reputation, with impressive scenery and far reaching views- so good that we spent 2 hrs lazing on the top despite it being -5!
Went on to climb Nethermost and Dollywagon pikes, before descending to Grasmere via Seat Sandal- a perfect day in the mountains.
