Wife and I didn't climb the whole Sandia Crest, we took the TRAM up to the top at 10,300 feet, and hiked another 300 feet or so, so at one point, we were up some 10,600. We made it up to the store where they served food, and sold post cards. I would say we hiked some 5 miles or so up in there. There was patchy snow cover and the temperature was around 44 degrees, but remarkably, we only wore shorts and t-shirt. As long as you stayed in the sun, we were good to go. I love that place. It was excellent, the view was great, and it really made my day.
