Yalung Ri

Yalung Ri can be used as an acclimatisation peak for the many peaks in this area over 20000ft/6000m, located in the West-Rolwaling Himal (SW of Everest). In this part of the Himalaya several mountains (including some over 22000ft) have not been climbed, mainly because they are not, and haven't been on any permitted peaks list of the Nepalese government. Yalung Ri is often climbed without a permit, when trekking/climbing groups have a permit for the nearby trekkingpeak Ramdung(19454ft,5930m). Yalung Ri is even easier than Ramdung and its E side provides several routes graded F and F+. There are some small glaciers on the mountain. From the foot of the East flank, climbing time to the summit is about 4 hours. Yalung Ri and Ramdung are often climbed by trekking groups. When you are in an organized, guided group you don't have to have climbing experience for these peaks. for others in this area, like Parchamo it is strongly advised to take some courses alpine climbing even if the other members are expierenced.
