Yates 1

Peak dominating the Fjord of Reloncavi, claimed to be claimed in former years already by a chilean mountain club. The peaks altitude is uncertain, it also consists of two peaks, Yates I and II, separated by a 4 km ice ridge. We first climbed the peak on nov. 29th, 2000, after several attempts. Rough weather, difficult rainforest crossing and aglacier with crevasses are waiting for climbers. Our first ascent was done via the direct North East face (ice up to 60 degrees, 550 m) descent by the easiest way, north ridge. Take 2 -3 days from Rio Puelo you need to get to Provisiones Gonzales and start opposite of the blockhut up the slopes (take a machete)- good luck!
