A steep fire trail climbs the south side of this peak, making a fun climb when snow free. During the winter months, the west ridge is nearly avalanche danger free, and is the preferred route.

Great day hike close to home. Very little snow on south and west sides. Lots of snow still on the north face. If properly equiped you could ski/slide all the way down to the lake.
  • Log #13685 - by Art on July 15, 2001
Great when still snow on ridge, good side trip to Mason Lake for return. Should become even more popular when USFS builds new Mason Lake trail across south side of Bandera.

Lots of snow at ridge-top. Scramble required from ridge to summit.
