On my first trip up Mt. Washington, my friend and I followed the Lion's Head Trail. We summitted in about three and a half hours after stopping several times to admire the views. On the way down, my friend (Dumb Vinny) decided that Huntington Trail would be the shortest and easiest route to Pinkham Notch. Very quickly, we realized he was wrong. Although the weather was warm with no relatively no wind, descending Huntington Trail in basketball shoes was difficult. On several occassions, we had to lay on our backs and slide down the smooth rocks and catch ourselves before falling over ledges. By the time we reached the first aid cache, we were hiking in the dark. As for my most recent trip, I can gladly say that I was on the summit for the warmest recorded temperature. However, I advise against starting up Boot Spur Trail at 11:30 am to the summit and back down again.
