Also called the Coca-Cola Route, this is the most popular route on Kilimanjaro. It ascends directly up the southeastern slopes, and is therefore shorter than the Machame Route, although rest days are typically added to climbers' itineraries to ensure proper acclimatization. Huts are available along the route.
Access is via Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA) near the small city of Arusha, about an hour from the mountain. From here transport is easily available to the village of Marangu, and on to Marangu Gate, which marks the start of the route.
