Mizugaki Yama is a granite mountain whose claim to fame is its pillars and cliffs of granodiorite type granite. In autumn, the maples turn red and orange and contrast splendidly with the grey rock. Mizugaki Yama is one of Japan's Hundred Famous Mountains (Hyaku Meisan) and lies very near Kinpu San, the highest peak in the Oku Chichibu Mountains at 2,599 metres. From Mizugaki one has a view to Yatsu ga Take, the South Alps and Mt. Fuji. The trail goes up very steep near the end but it doesn't require any special gear to reach the summit.
